Online TESOL/TEFL Information

What's TESOL/TEFL?

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

As you may or may not know TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and is a combination of what used to be called TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). It is a process of certification distinct to the North American perspective. TESOL teaches potential teachers how to properly instruct students in both a locale environment and international environment. TESOL also refers to the American organizational network of English teachers and other professionals in the English teaching field.

How to process Online TESOL/TEFL

Online TESOL/TEFL Structure

The purpose of the TESOL/TEFL course is to acquaint and familiarize students with the skills, and abilities needed in order to become a successful English Teacher to students who are native speakers of other languages. The course is broken into 10 modules, with each module consisting of two lessons. Students will watch as teachers go over the basics of the 10 modules. Topics include such lessons as: how to improve one’s use of the blackboard, presenting structures, teaching basic reading, planning a week’s lesson and more. Students will be graded based on the following:

  • Each Module is designed to include about 10 hours of class time & materials (including activities, time spent preparing for quizzes, etc). In total, students should spend a minimum of 160 hours of time watching recordings, taking quizzes, preparing a final assignment and studying for both a midterm test and final test.
  • After watching each video lesson, students should take the quiz. There are 10 quizzes, and one quiz follows each module.
  • A midterm test that must be completed following completion of Module 5.
  • A final test that covers materials from Module 6-10
  • The final assignment will ask students to create a detailed lesson plan 2-3 pages in length of a lesson they might possibly teach at some point in time, later in the future. While it is not necessary that students record a demonstration of how they would teach this lesson plan, it is highly recommended.
  • For protection of data loss, log onto our system and upload your electronic files (MS word files) after completing the final assignment and teacher diary entries
  • An Email will be sent to confirm the results of your completed quiz or Test and assignment. Please Check your Email box regularly. You can also check your score online. ( my page Information)

This course is meant for those who lead busy lives, and therefore students may cover material whenever it is most convenient for them. However, it should be noted, that upon enrollment, students will have to complete everything within 6 weeks of their enrollment date
