Hi again, Allan!
Some questions arise after I learned from a variety of practice methods.

Suppose students of two groups are mixed up in a class.
One group has a strong point in speaking rather than in writing. Another group is the other way round.
As for me, in this case, I am gonna provide and suggest a different practice to each group.
I basically think one group is supposed to do writing practices and another group is supposed to do speaking practices with same topics and questions.

There are two things I wanna ask you Allan!
1. When speaking or writing in English, some students might think their own native language first and then translate it into English. Do you think it is not a bad way to do practices in that way?
2. If I split up into two groups, a speaking practice group and a writing practice group, I might be worried that some students might feel sense of difference each other. I'm not sure it is the best way to do practices in that certain situation. What do you think, Allan?

Hi Jun Woo Kwon,

Sorry about the late response.  My wife is actually pregnant and going to give brith soon, so I haven't been able to check online TESOL as often as I would like to!

Anyhow, let's take a look at those questions:

1.)  I think that it is only natural for students to think in their native language first, and then translate into English.  Once students attain a higher level, they may be able to think in English and speak English at the same time.  It is a good idea to encourage them to think in English, but until they obtain higher level English, there is unfortunately not much you can do.

2.)  This is an interesting question.  One solution to this problem is that you could try to mix up the two groups so that they have an equal amount of students of who are good at speaking and writing.  Then the exercise could involve writing first, and speaking second.

Anyhow, I hope that makes sense, and if not just post again!  Have a good day!

Thank you for your reply.
1. Exactly,I couldn't agree with you more! It always takes time but I believe students' academic ability is finally getting higher.
2. Wow! Your idea is way better than that of mine, Allan! If I'm gonna do practices according to your advice, at least there is no a sense of unfairness felt by the classmates.

And one thing for sure is...... Congrat to you, Allan! Hope you and your wife have a healthy baby. I'll be praying for you and your wife.
