Online TESOL Training Program

Brief Program Description

 

The Glenn College Online TESOL Training Program is designed for students who have completed a TESOL foundation course and wish to further develop their skills in ESL instruction. The program focuses on advanced lesson planning, teaching strategies, and classroom activity design. Students will engage in reflective practice by creating, recording, and submitting teaching demonstrations for feedback. The course emphasizes practical teaching application and critical reflection on pedagogical approaches.

 

* This program does not provide TESL Canada-recognized certification. Students seeking TESL Canada certification must undergo a separate Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process.

 

* This program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Career Occupations

 

Graduates of this program are prepared for roles such as:

  • ESL Teacher (online, private institutions, overseas)
  • Teacher Assistant in ESL classrooms

Admissions Requirements

 

General Admission Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Completion of one of the following:
    • Glenn College's Online TESOL Program
    • A TESOL certificate program from another institution (proof required)

Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following:

  • BC English 12 with minimum B+ grade
  • IELTS 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT 60–78
  • Duolingo English Test score: 95–100

 

Note: Written in-house tests are not used to determine admission eligibility.

Learning Objectives

 

  • Analyze classroom practices and English language learning strategies.
  • Design, deliver, and assess ESL lesson plans.
  • Create skill-based learning activities and evaluate learner responses.
  • Reflect on teaching practices through self-evaluation and feedback.

Method of Evaluation

 

  • Quizzes (16%)
  • Presentations of activities (40%)
  • Final Test (14%)
  • Final Assignment: Lesson Plan + Teaching Video (30%)

Completion Requirements

  • 70% minimum attendance
  • All quizzes, presentations, test, and assignment must be completed within 6 weeks
  • Minimum overall grade: 70%

Program Duration

 
  • 160 instructional hours
  • 6 weeks to complete from the start date

  • 5 to 10 hours per week
