Online Business Interpretation Program (ITT & GITA - L1, L2)

Brief Program Description

 

This program is designed to train bilingual students to interpret spoken content in real-time between English and Korean, focusing on business settings. Students will develop skills in consecutive interpretation, sight translation, and cultural fluency. The program emphasizes vocabulary, tone, speech flow, and listening comprehension. Graduates will be equipped to perform interpretation during meetings, presentations, and business conversations.

 

* This program is currently under review by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) and has not yet been approved.

Career Occupations

 

Graduates of this program are prepared for roles such as:

  • Business Interpreter (English-Korean / Korean-English)
  • Consecutive Interpreter for meetings and presentations
  • Interpretation Assistant in multinational business environments

Admissions Requirements

 

General Admission Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school education (high school diploma or equivalent)

Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate bilingual proficiency in English and Korean:

  • IELTS 5.5 or higher
  • TOEFL iBT 49 -65 or higher (or PBT 500+)
  • TOEIC 600 or higher
  • TOPIK Level 4 or higher (for Korean)
  • Successful English and Korean proficiency TEST (minimum score: 70%)

Learning Objectives

 

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Perform real-time consecutive interpretation in business contexts.
  • Accurately convey meaning, tone, and cultural nuance between English and Korean.
  • Apply proper vocabulary, speech flow, and listening strategies for effective interpretation.
  • Prepare for the Level 1 or 2 ITT Certification in Business Interpretation.
  • Prepare for the Level 1 or 2 GITA Certification in Business Interpretation.

Methods of Evaluation

 
  • Weekly interpretation assignments and participation
  • Midterm and final interpretation evaluations (Modules 1–2 and 3–4)
  • Final ITT interpretation exam
  • Final GITA interpretation exam

Completion Requirements

 
  • 70% minimum attendance
  • Minimum overall score of 70%
  • Completion of all translation assignments and tests

Program Duration

 
  • 210 instructional hours over 6 weeks

Homework Hours

 
  • 6 to 10 hours per week (not included in total instructional hours)
