Online Business Translation Program (ITT & GITA - L1, L2)

Brief Program Description

 

This program prepares students to perform professional translation between English and Korean in business contexts. It provides systematic training in grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and cultural nuances critical to business-related documents. Students translate a range of content, including news articles, formal business writing, and common business phrases. The program emphasizes both English-to-Korean and Korean-to-English translation.

 

* This program is currently under review by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) and has not yet been approved.

Career Occupations

 

Graduates of this program are prepared for roles such as:

  • Business Translator (English/Korean)
  • In-house Translation Assistant
  • Project Assistant in Localization or Communication Departments

Admissions Requirements

 

General Admission Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school education (high school diploma or equivalent)

Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate bilingual proficiency in English and Korean:

  • IELTS 5.5 or higher
  • TOEFL iBT 49 -65 or higher (or PBT 500+)
  • TOEIC 600 or higher
  • TOPIK Level 4 or higher (for Korean)
  • Successful English and Korean proficiency TEST (minimum score: 70%)

Learning Objectives

 

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Translate business-related content accurately between English and Korean.
  • Use appropriate terminology, tone, and formatting for formal and informal business communications.
  • Identify and correct awkward grammar, unnatural expressions, and cultural mismatches in translations.
  • Apply stylistic consistency and precision in both sentence and passage-level translation.

Methods of Evaluation

 
  • Module-based individual translation assignments
  • Midterm and final translation exams (Modules 1–3 and 4–6)
  • Final external ITT certification translation exam (Modules 1–6)
  • Final external GITA certification translation exam (Modules 1–6)

Completion Requirements

 
  • 70% minimum attendance
  • Completion of all translation assignments and tests
  • Minimum cumulative grade of 70%

Program Duration

 
  • 240 instructional hours over 8 weeks

Homework Hours

 
  • 6 to 10 hours per week (not included in total instructional hours)
