Hope you're doing well:)
I'd like to ask you a question about the vocaburary 'suffer'
1) When we use the preposition from with 'suffer',is it solely to refer to sickness, desease or illness?
(I see sometimes 'suffer' come without any preposition)
2) Are suffer 'from' and suffer 'for' exactly same?
Hope you can understand my question Lol..
Thank you for your attention

Hi Eunhye!
Here are my answers to your questions!
——————————————————
1) When we use the preposition from with 'suffer',is it solely to refer to sickness, desease or illness?
(I see sometimes 'suffer' come without any preposition)
Yes, indeed “to suffer from” is usually followed by sickness/disease/illness etc (for instance, “He is suffering from cancer”) but it is also possible to use it in an abstract manner. For example, you can say “She is not suffering from her recent break-up anymore”)
Saying “to suffer” is essentially the same thing except it is more commonly used with specific kinds/names of illnesses. Check: https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/128657/suffer-vs-suffer-from
2) Are suffer 'from' and suffer 'for' exactly same?
“to suffer from” and “to suffer for” sound different.
Saying “you suffer for something” sounds like “you suffer [because you did] something” For example, you would say “You must suffer for what you did” (네가 한 짓에 대한 댓가를 반드시 치르게 될꺼야/고통을 받게 될꺼야)

I hope this helps!
