MEDICAL ENGLISH PROGRAM
This program does not require approval by Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of
Advanced Education and Skills Training. As such, PTIB did not review this program.
This program is for students who plan to be or is currently in the health field and want to improve their English communication skills within this industry. Students have the option to take one, two, or all of the courses in this program. Each course focuses on a specific area of the health industry; Body and Movement, Common Symptoms and Sicknesses, and Pharmaceuticals and Treatment. These courses have been designed to facilitate for better communication and understanding with patients and others in the health and medical field.
Course 1
“Patient Interactions” will focus on various, yet common, scenarios one may encounter in the health and medical field. Taking the role of a nurse, doctor, 9-1-1 dispatcher, and many others, students will be well-equipped to communicate effectively with any type of patient they may encounter while practicing in the industry.
Course 2
“Common Illnesses & Symptoms” will help students familiarize themselves with various English words and phrases used to describe common illnesses or symptoms. Extending from a common cold to gastrointestinal and respiratory problems, this course will adeptly prepare students with everyday medical terminology.
Course 3
"Essential Medical Vocabulary” will introduce students to essential vocabulary for body parts, medical equipment & apparatuses, hospital wards, and key medical phrases. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to recognize many of the relevant terminologies used in the medical field.
The course is broken into four modules with each module having two lessons.
Each module has a quiz after each module, a cumulative midterm, and a final test.
The final test cumulative from module three and four. All three courses has different level and subject.
If you are not familiar with medical terms or if you are a beginner you may want to start from course 1.
Upon successful completion, students will receive a course certificate and a transcript
1. This program involves 3 courses – each subject specific and the duration to complete each course is 4 weeks from start date.
2. Each course has a module quiz, midterm, and final test.
3. Successful completion of each course (a minimum overall mark of 70%)will be granted a certificate.
Proof of English proficiency through one of the following :
Students must complete the course with a minimum overall mark of 80% to have successfully completed the program and be granted a certificate by Glenn College.
