[Business Translation (Advanced - ITT Level 1,2)] E to K Article Module 2-1

Dear teacher Mason,

Today I have a couple of questions regarding module 2-1

1. the word 'Parliament'

I understand that there are different words referring to 국회 in Korean
1) How are they different? : parliament, national assembly, congress
2) Should the first letter always be capital? like,Parliament ?

2. IMHO,when translated into Korean, active form sounds more natural that passive forms in some case.
For example,

"Originally cats were used in the Parliament buildings to control mice"
-> My translation: 원래는 의회에서 쥐를 잡는데 고양이들을 이용하곤 했다

Although the English sentence was written in the passive voice, I translated it into active voice, Will it affect the scoring in the real exam?

3. William Lyon Mackenzie King (he's the one on Canada's $50 bill)
My translation : 50달러 지폐의 인물이기도 한 윌리엄 라이언 맥캔지 킹 (William Lyon Mackenzie King)은

I had the sentence in brackets modify the noun (William Lyon) and took away the brackets.
Is it ok or should Ieave the bracket when translating?

-> Each country has different systems for their politics and governments so it is often not a good idea to try to find the differences between terms if we do not have a clear understanding of each country’s party system in my opinion. The word 국회 in Korean is indeed often translated as the national assembly and also for many other countries. There are also countries such as Canada that use the word “parliament” which serves a very similar purpose in my opinion. In the US, it will be typically called congress.

I believe it is if you are talking about a specific country’s parliament i.e the British Parliament. However, if you are using it in a general sense, it will not be, i.e) parliaments across Europe countries.

-> It is a standard practice to leave its source language term in brackets; however, this also heavily depends on what kind of translating you are doing.
