Hello

Here are my questions after having watched the lecture

1. 3.    우리가 관제탑에서 이륙허가를 받는 대로 비행기에 탑승하게 될 것이다.
The teacher explained why she didn't use either an article or plural form with the noun 'air traffic control' but I don't understand.
Could you explain to me again?

2. I've never seen the expresson '덕분에' translated as 'thanks to'. It's always 'because of'
Why is that?

3. Here is the requested copy of the rental contract and the keys
Teacher told not to use here are because it refers to each thing at a time (here is a contrant and here is a key)
However, in the example answer, I can see "Here are~"
So, which one is right?

4. 11.    박물관 재건축 공사로 수개월간 시민들이 제대로 전시회를 볼 수 없었다.
The public could not see the exhibit properly~~

The korean word here is '전시회' so I translated it into 'exhibition'
What is the difference between these two? Are they replacable?

5. Our hotel is the best in drawing women customers ?
1) Can I use 'draw in' instead of just draw? If not, why?
2) Can I use 'female' instead of women? if not, why?

6.1.    우리 서비스를 확대하는데 필요한 공간인 새로운 시설을 제공해 주어서 매우 기쁘게 생각한다.
We are very delighted with the new facility because it gives the space needed to expand our service.

I'd like to verify if the following sentence is also correct :

We are very delighted with the new facility that gives the space needed to expand our service.
(In Korean sentence, 필요한 공간 modifies 새로운 시설)

Hi Eunhye!

Here are my answers to your questions!

——————————————————

1. 3.    우리가 관제탑에서 이륙허가를 받는 대로 비행기에 탑승하게 될 것이다.
The teacher explained why she didn't use either an article or plural form with the noun 'air traffic control' but I don't understand.
Could you explain to me again?

-> The best way to explain this? Simply “just because.” Probably the main reason behind it is the uncountability of the word “control” in this specific setting, but that will never give you a clear explanation in my opinion. I agree that it is weird to say “an air traffic controls” or “air traffic controls” and most likely you would say “the air traffic control” if the sentence is used with specific context.

2. I've never seen the expresson '덕분에' translated as 'thanks to'. It's always 'because of'
Why is that?

-> Not sure if we can say it’s always “because of” as the expression “thanks to” does carry the same meaning. Still I think it is quite colloquial so perhaps you wouldn’t see it very often when translating.

-> I understand that this is confusing but to be clear, both can be correct technically. Although I understand why Grace mentioned that we wouldn’t say “Here are” for the reason you mentioned, I don’t think there is a significant grammatical issue here even if you said “Here are the....”

4. 11.    박물관 재건축 공사로 수개월간 시민들이 제대로 전시회를 볼 수 없었다.
The public could not see the exhibit properly~~

The korean word here is '전시회' so I translated it into 'exhibition'
What is the difference between these two? Are they replacable?

-> Yes, they are perfectly interchangeable here.

1) Can I use 'draw in' instead of just draw? If not, why?
2) Can I use 'female' instead of women? if not, why?

-> My answer would be “Yes you can” for both!

I'd like to verify if the following sentence is also correct :

We are very delighted with the new facility that gives the space needed to expand our service.
(In Korean sentence, 필요한 공간 modifies 새로운 시설)

-> I think your sentence is perfectly sound.
