Q 7. 경영진은 더 이상 돈을 허비하지 않기 위해서 마침내 파업 중인 직원들의 요구에 승복했다.

Student's answer
Not to waste any more money, the management finally surrendered to the demands of the striking workers.

Teacher's comment
In order not to waste any more money, ~

Score 0.70/0.80

The teacher who graded my quiz took off 0.1 point for not using 'in order to'. I got 19.65 out of 20, so losing 0.1 point won't be a critical problem. Still, I'd like to know the difference between using just 'to~' and using 'in order to~' in the sentence. Those two sentences seem quite the same to me. Can any of the teachers explain why my answer is wrong?

Hi Shin Young,

Thank you for writing in and for your question. I will be happy to answer your question.
Whenever you use negative infinitives, you must ALWAYS have IN ORDER NOT TO (verb).
Whereas with positive infinitive verbs you can use IN ORDER TO (verb) or just TO (verb).
I hope this answers your question.
Have a great day!
