hello mr.Mason, this is Wooseong
i have a question, because i am a little confused
"allow me to try to answer this question in the few coming mins"
i thought it would be interpreted "잠시 후 or 몇 분 안에 이 질문에 대한 답을 해보려 합니다."because i learned 'in 몇 분' means 몇 분 후에 or 몇 분 안에
but you said "앞으로 몇 분 동안 이 질문에 답을 해보려 합니다."
i think '앞으로 몇 분 동안' should be 'for the coming minutes'
could you please tell me why you interpret 'in the few coming minutes' that way?

Hi Wooseong,

That’s an excellent question!

I definitely agree that when we say “in 시간” it often means “시간 후에/안에”.

So for the sentence: “Allow me to try to answer this question in the few coming minutes”

You can more than definitely say: “앞으로 몇 분 후에/안에 이 질문에 답을 해보도록 하겠습니다.”

However, from the way I see it, this is someone (a speaker) that probably started their speech with a question, then he/she is saying “I will answer the question very soon, so hold on, let me talk about something else first” kind of thing, right? So when we understand this context, I personally don’t see too much difference in saying “몇 분 이내에” or “몇 분 후에” or “몇 분 동안에” because the focus is really on the fact that “the answer will be given later”, not the exact “in how many minutes” the answer will be given.

Long story short, although I don’t think it changes the gist of the original meaning, I would still change my interpretation to something like, “앞으로 몇 분 이내에 이 질문에 대한 답변을 드려보겠습니다”.

Thank you for the good question and I hope this makes sense!

Best regards,
