I have a question about a lesson plan.
I think that when making a lesson plan, activities such as ’Repetition or Substitution’, ’Single word prompt or Picture prompt’ and ’Free substitution’ (3activities) should be in the practice stage. But also we let students use new words or structures in a free way in the production stage. I wonder what is different between the free substitution of practice and the free way of production. In the class, you said that 'Free substitution' is letting students create their own sentences. Are they the same? Does that mean that free activity can be in both stages? Or can it be either? Where would be more appropriate if it had to be in one?

Hi Seon Mi Choe,
This is a very good question, and I wish I had dealt with this issue when talking about making lesson plans.
First of all, you're right, we should do 3 practice activities after presenting a structure. What I should have mentioned in the lesson, is that "free substitution", while a practice activity, is actually a free form of practice, and thus should be in a production stage. So, what this means, is that a practice stage could just include 2 forms of practice, while a production stage can include one form of free practice, such as 'free substitution' for example (although there are many other activities that you could include in a production stage).
Well, I hope that makes sense. If not, please comment again, and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
Have a great day!
