Dear Allan,

Hello, this is Hyojin Yu, and I am taking your TESOL class. Thank you for the good lecture as always.

I have a question about quiz 2 from module 9.

The question was:

• In what situation would using your own native language in class be best?
1. Introducing the aims of the lesson
2. Correcting errors in class
3. Setting homework
4. Punishing students

I chose '#2.

You referred to the following in video 4:

"If there's a big grammatical mistake and the student really, really doesn't understand and you don't have a lot of time in class, it's okay to use your native language sometimes."

"I think actually when it comes to punishing students, they're going to take it more seriously if you're actually speaking their native language, because they're going to clearly understand what's going on. Right? So in this case, it's an excellent idea to punish students in your native language."

But the correct answer is #4.

Could you explain to me why my answer is wrong?

Thank you very much.
