Is it always mechanical practice when the practice is kind of repetition and substitution???

Hi again Tae Woo Kim,

Good question.  I would say that repetition is ALWAYS mechanical, and substitution activities are usually mechanical.  However, just in keep in mind, that if we add something to a substitution activity, such as a follow up question like "why?", we can make it meaningful.

I hope that helps and if not, please get back to me!

Thank you for your response. But, there is one more question. If I add how instead of why as a follow up question, does it also become a meaningful??

Hi again TaeWoo,

Yes, it would make it more meaningful, because students would have to think about the answer.  Good question by the way!

Have a great day!
