I have a question for you, Allen.

Q.7
Asking questions while reading a text to students is a good way to help students predict what will happen next in the text.

I think the correct answer should be "True". Would you explain about this?

Hi Miran,

Good question!

First of all, this is quite confusing, because while they're called "questions to get students to predict" they do not actually help students to predict what will actually happen next.  Let's think about an example.  Let's say the text I am reading to my students has a sentence like this for example:

"John went to the store to buy some ice cream"

Now, let's say I ask a question after buy.  For example, "What do you think he will buy?".  I pause, ask the question, and then continue.  Of course students will not be able to correctly guess what will happen next.

Remember, the purpose of "questions that get students to predict" is not to actually get them to accurately predict.  They are simply asked in order to maintain our students' attention, make the story more interesting, and basically wake them up.

Well, I hope that makes sense.  If not, please post again and have a wonderful day!
