Hello Allan,

I have a question about Eliciting long answers on lesson 5.
I've learned about methods#1 out of three methods to get the answer with full sentances and a example of questions like specific, general and prompt question.

now I'm confused methods#1, which is insist and specific questions. insisting is the same as specific question type ?

Let me know if it correct.

Thanks many

Hi Min Jung Seo,

No, it is not the same thing.  Insisting that students give you a full answer is just forcing them to give you full complete sentences.  It is basically like saying, "Paul - what do you like to do on the weekend?  Give me a full and complete sentence!".  That is insisting.

Specific questions are used when asking questions about a text.  "What did the man do at the store?" is an example of a specific question because it asking for one thing in particular.  The question, "What did the man do on Saturday?" may be a general question, because the man may have done many things.  The difference between general questions and specific questions is that general questions often require more detail, where as specific questions just have one direct answer.

Well, I hope that makes sense and have a great day!
