Hello Mason,
it's Mimi again.

May i ask one more quick question?
During the midterm-K to E, there is "문제가 심각한 사람들은 최선을 다해 두 가지 방법을 조금씩 혼용해 볼 필요가 있다. "
i did "People with serious problems need to mix in two ways little by little with try their best."
I tried to translate in many ways but still not quiet sure...

1. "문제가 심각한 사람들" -> People with.. or People who have .. or Those who have..
What is the difference between "in two ways" and "two methods

I spent all day with this sentence and still can't sleep..!
I hope you could help me one more time please.

Thank you always :)

Hello Mimi!

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for the question.

Let’s have a look! :)

——————

1. "문제가 심각한 사람들" -> People with.. or People who have .. or Those who have..

-> There is no significant difference so it does not matter how you say it. Remember, when you translate, we are focusing more on “meaning for meaning”, rather than “word for word”

-> “need to try their best” sounds fine by me.

In your sentence, “with try their best." would be a grammar mistake in fact. You would want to say either “by trying their best” or “with their best try”

What is the difference between "in two ways" and "two methods"

-> In this context, ways and methods are perfectly interchangeable.

-> Here, 조금씩 can be translated either “little by little” or “bit by bit”. I think it is great that you are spending more time thinking about how to come up with a better translation! As you know already, yes there are so many different ways of translating one language into another language. The whole process of translating is a constant battle between “delivering the meaning” while “maintaining the original tone.” It is a trade off thus you have to find a sweet spot where you believe it is delivering the meaning entirely while it is preserving the original tone as much as possible.

I sincerely hope it helps!
