I have a question from Module 4. Even though, I already submitted my work, I still wonder about the meaning of a word.

I watched the video, but I couldn't fully understand. Please explain the sentence in detail.

Sitting at the bar Thursday, drinking a lager, patron Scott Finch said he’s in support of the boycott, calling Putin’s actions against gays “criminal.”

Especially, I felt difficult to translate the sentence because of the meaning of patron. I have known that the meaning is supporter and regular customer.

So, I translated the word into a customer at first. However, I changed the meaning into supporter because of following the sentence. “I’ve tried to avoid anything to do with Russia for a long time.

From this sentence, ordinary people do not tend to say like this. So I decided to translate the word into supporter.

Is it right ? When I translate sentences, it is very hard to choose one meaning. That's why I ask the exact meaning to you.
