In the example sentence of Vocabulary 5 "steadily" in Video 8 of Module 2

You said "It has been raining steadily all day with no led up"

My question is the meaning of " with no led up"

I couldn't find the meaning in the English dictionary.

Please respond to my question when you have time.

Hello Taeuk,

Thank you for the question!

Here, although the word “lead-up” would be more common and correct to use, you can consider it as practically the same thing as “lead-up” as the word “led” is simply a past tense of the word “lead.”

When you say A is “leading up” to B, it means A is progressing and reaching B, usually an event.

In this sentence, the expression “with no led up” is trying to say “[비가 계속 올 것 같다는] 별 다른 징조 없이”

For instance, if you say:

“The main character died all of a sudden with no led up or whatsoever”

it means: “그 주인공은 별 다른 징조도 없이 갑자기/뜬금없이 죽었다.”

I hope it makes sense!
