Sorry about responding so late to you!  Now the question was, "[a]ll of the following can be done individually, in pairs, or in groups, except:...".  Now, the important thing here is that you have to read the question carefully.  Pattern practice is about asking questions and getting answers, and therefore pattern practice is a very suitable activity for pairs, and maybe even groups.  However, pattern practice is not a very suitable activity that can be done individually.  Just think about it, should individual students ask themselves questions, and then answer them?  It is possible, but really not a good idea.  Therefore, pattern practice is the answer.

Does that make sense?  If not, just post again, and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible (although I am going to go to sleep soon!).
