I have a question on the following sentence in Video 5 of Module 1_K to E.
이후 돈 때문에 많은 노인들이 영정사진을 못 찍는다는 뉴스를 보게 되었다.
After that, he saw on the news that many of the elderly [cannot take portraits/do not have portraits] due to money.
My question is when you said "cannot take portraits" it sounds to me like the elderly take portraits by themselves.
Like "You can get your hair cut", I think "the elderly cannot get their portraits taken due to money" is correct.
I may have focused on grammar too much.
Please give us your opinion on my question.
Best regards,

Hello Taeuk,
I definitely do understand where you are coming from. I think it is subtle but a valid point. I personally do not think it will alter the meaning because saying "to take a portrait" often means either you are taking a portrait of someone else or you are getting someone to take a portrait photo of you. Indeed if you want to say "자기자신의 사진을 찍다", you would say "take a self-portrait" or "take a portrait yourself".
Also, this kind of thing is just something that we commonly see in both English and Korean.
As your example, saying "I got a hair cut" often carries the same meaning as "I cut my hair." Similarly, saying "Did you cut your hair?" doesn't always mean "네가 [직접] 머리 짤랐어?"; in fact, it will be mostly used to mean "did you get a hair cut?" in English.
I hope this is clear!
